NBA 2K Revealed Some Of The New Dunks In This Year’s Game During A Motion Capture Session

The video above was released on NBA 2K’s TikTok to show off some of the new dunks in the upcoming game. And while they give no attribution to who the guy throwing down all that motion capture heat is, they look incredibly sick:

Each one of those dunks sounds more violent than the last. I feel like this dude typifies a whole army of dudes out there who are throwing down NBA caliber dunks that you haven’t even heard of. Guys like 6-foot-1 Jordan Kilganon on Instagram:

As someone who’s been able to to get rim when I was younger but never threw one down on a regulation rim, it’s something to envy. But I love the democratization of dunking for guys like these. A pro-am NBA Slam Dunk Contest would be one of the greatest things ever if they got some of these guys and the And-One Mixtape crew. The world is ready for it, even if NBA player egos may not be.

Also, it makes me laugh that there’s a motion capture guy who’s there just to get posterized over and over again. That is a job that I am infinitely more qualified for. You’re probably getting ping-pong ball covered testicles in your face more often than you’d like but the guy getting dunked on is just as important for the game. He can convey real emotion and heartbreak in a way that really adds to the realism, sort of like a jobber in pro wrestling who’s paid to lose and make the star look good. Or some motion capture guys could do like their NBA counterparts and avoid the dunk entirely to try to not look bad. There’s real acting there either way. Let’s get a Best Supporting Motion Capture Actor In A Sports Video Game award winner at the Oscars. They’re the real heroes.
