This Week In Fantasy: Monkey Knife Fight Acquires FantasyDraft To Challenge DraftKings, FanDuel

Throughout the daily fantasy sports landscape there are a variety of other competitor sites and applications to choose from besides DraftKings and FanDuel. Many of these platforms offer their own added twists to distinguish their brand as a unique approach to DFS and sports betting.

This week, two of the most successful alternative DFS platforms joined forces to compete as the third-largest brand in the business, as player proposition platform Monkey Knife Fight acquired the DFS gaming site FantasyDraft and further distanced themselves from the “other guy” competition.

According to PR Newswire, “the deal will allow MKF to absorb FantasyDraft’s assets and significant user base.” Financial details of the acquisition have yet to be disclosed since the official announcement.

FantasyDraft was the fourth-largest DFS site in North America, thus the product absorption helps even further solidify the stranglehold by Monkey Knife Fight on third-largest contender in the daily fantasy industry.

The acquisition is the most notable since 2017, when FantasyDraft had purchased DFS platform Fantasy Aces to rival that of DraftKings and FanDuel for their shares of the daily fantasy market.

Back in April of this year, Monkey Knife Fight began a formal partnership with publicly traded Enthusiast Gaming Holdings Inc.(TSX: EGLX) and has also been sewing up endorsements with a number of professional sports teams.

One can’t help but consider what’s on the horizon for the rest of the playing field going forward, from the entry-level startups all the way up to the top dogs in FanDuel and DraftKings. With sports gambling legalized on a federal level in May 2018, it’s gradually trickled across 18 of the 50 states thus far and growing rapidly. As that number increases, obviously the opportunities to stake claim within the industry will grow exponentially as well.
