MLB Cancels Marlins Home Opener Against The Orioles: Yankees And Phillies Follow Suit

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, 12 Miami Marlins players and two coaches have tested positive for COVID-19. Consequentially, the MLB has canceled the Miami Marlin’s home opener against the Orioles. Florida, we have a problem. Just four days after opening day, the 2020 MLB season is looking very grim.

Oh, Florida, what have you done? Coronavirus cases in Florida continue to spike, yet Karens everywhere still won’t wear a mask. It’s a miracle the NBA is pulling off the bubble season (knock on wood) with all the people that have been in and out. Looking at you, Lou Williams.

Honestly, I don’t know what the MLB expected. There is just no avoiding this thing. No fans in stadiums only eliminates the risk of outside people spreading the virus inside ballparks. Players are still traveling and staying in their own homes. All it takes is one player going to 7-Eleven to get a Slurpee and, boom, next thing you know the whole team is infected. I think Manfred got sick of all the player complaints and just laid down the hammer. I thought the salary disputes would kill the MLB season before corona had a chance to get ahold of it. Yet, here we are.

The Marlins’ coronavirus outbreak only goes to show just how lethal this thing is. In a single day, 40% of their roster (12-of-30 players) tested positive. The news has already had a domino effect on the rest of the MLB. The Yankees have canceled their game against the Phillies, who just played their home-opening series with the Marlins.

The MLB season is doomed. It was a fun four days. At least my beloved Chicago Cubbies are currently leading the division. Although, they are tied with the dirty birds from St. Louis. Regardless, the MLB “season” is over. Book it. More importantly, the NFL season doesn’t stand a chance. Go ahead and forget about college football while you’re at it. The NBA bubble has worked effectively so far, however, I am concerned about the high level of traffic. I pray, for my own sanity, that nothing goes wrong. Help me, NBA season. You’re my only hope.
