Mike Tyson Announces He Will Be Returning To The Ring

After his exhibition with Roy Jones Jr. in November, Mike Tyson announced on his podcast that he will be fighting again in 2021. His fight is scheduled to be in Miami with a target date of May 29. However, who he is fighting is yet to be determined. Many seem to believe that it will be another bout with Evander Holyfield. The two famously fought in 1997 when Tyson bit off a chunk of Holyfield’s ear. It is a fight that is still talked about to this day. As for Holyfield, he hasn’t stepped in the ring professionally since 2011.

Per TMZ Sports:

We spoke with Holyfield back in December and stated that a fight with Tyson looked like it was going to happen. Tyson had also previously mentioned to us that he would fight Holyfield as long as they could raise money for charity along the way. The comments by both have many pointing in the direction of this being the match Tyson alluded to on his podcast.

Many felt that the exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr. didn’t live up to the hype as it ultimately ended in a split decision. Fans knew a 54-year-old Tyson against a 52-year-old wouldn’t be what it once was, however, the reaction to the fight was not very enthusiastic. But Tyson will once again step up, this time at Hard Rock Stadium.

Regardless of the opponent, there will always be some level of intrigue behind a Mike Tyson fight. Tyson seemed enthusiastic about announcing his fight, so hopefully, it will be a worthy opponent. Should it be Holyfield, I am sure it will draw lots of traction. Despite it just being an exhibition, fights with former pros or athletes seem to be an upward trend right now.
