Mike Trout Breaks Silence On MLB Lockout To Slam Rob Manfred

Angels superstar Mike Trout broke his silence on the current MLB lockout to slam commissioner Rob Manfred and greedy owners after games were canceled

Mike Trout has spoken.

The MLB’s best player has remained on the sidelines for most of the current lockout and negotiations between the players and owners this past week. But after commissioner Rob Manfred announced on Tuesday that (at least) the first week of the season was set to be canceled, Trout weighed in.

“I want to play,” Trout said. “I love our game, but I know we need to get this CBA right. Instead of bargaining in good faith — MLB locked us out. Instead of negotiating a fair deal — Rob canceled games. Players stand together. For our game, for our fans, and for every player who comes after us. We owe it to the next generation.”

Mike Trout echoed the same sentiment shared by MLPA union president Tony Clark and the rest of the players after it was announced that there was going to be no new CBA deal following the 9-day negotiation period that ended on Tuesday afternoon.

“The game has suffered damage for a while now,” MLBPA executive director Tony Clark said. The game has changed. The game has been manipulated. I often tell folks that ask me about the changes in the game … the game that I grew up on, the game that our guys play, how that is played has changed. As a result of that change, the game that a lot of baseball fans have grown up knowing has changed.”

Hopefully Rob Manfred recognizes the damage he’s doing to the game by neglecting fans the opportunity to see Mike Trout and other superstars take the field for Opening Day this April.
