Mike Tomlin Doesn’t Understand How Eric Bieniemy Doesn’t have Head Coaching Job

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has been outspoken about his desire to see more minorities get hired into positions of power in the NFL.

As one of the few African-American head coaches in the league, Tomlin has always used his platform to try to create opportunities for others. Like many, Tomlin is baffled that Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has not gotten a head coaching gig yet.

“Bieniemy is a real head-scratcher for me,” Tomlin said, via the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. “Every offensive coordinator Andy Reid has had in the last 20 years got a head job. One of those guys, Brad Childress, hired me in Minnesota in 2006. Now, Andy has the best offense he’s ever had and [Bieniemy] can’t get a job?”

With all of the openings this offseason, it was widely expected that Bieniemy would land a job. Once again, he was passed over.

Despite being a big part of the offensive success in Kansas City, Bieiemy has remained on the market for a head coaching job for the past couple years. While wild cards such as Dan Campbell and Nick Sirianni landed head jobs this offseason, Bieniemy will patiently wait for his chance to lead a team.
