Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard about Sean Payton being linked to the Dallas Cowboys.

Rumors have swirled for a while about Sean Payton being a potential head coach for the Cowboys.

Once Payton retired, this fueled the fire on those rumors even more. While speaking to Rich Eisen on Tuesday, Dallas’ current head coach Mike McCarthy was asked about the situation.

“I think clearly, when you look at those type of comments, I think you have to understand the platform … I have an excellent relationship with Jerry Jones. We talk on a regular basis about anything and everything: big picture, tight focus on what we’re doing … program wise and … development of our players.”

“The gist of the conversation was that you and I are in this back to back,” McCarthy explained.

The Cowboys would love to get Sean Payton as their coach, that is as soon as he’s ready to return to coaching.

It kind of feels like McCarthy is just keeping the seat warm for a better replacement.

He’s definitely not going to last very long if he can’t get some playoff wins under his belt.
