Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley announced earlier today that he was taking time away from football to deal with mental health issues that have been affecting him.

Ridley put out a statement Sunday afternoon saying that he “needed to step away from football at this time and focus on my wellbeing”.

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas responded to Ridley’s comments with support for the young star WR.

The Falcons lost 19-13 at home to the Carolina Panthers. Ridley has 31 receptions for 281 yards and two TDs over his 5 games this season.

No word yet on why or how long Ridley will be away from football.
