Longtime New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and star receiver Michael Thomas had a somewhat controversial relationship during their time together.

While the pair enjoyed a great deal of success with Drew Brees at quarterback, there was some confusion over Thomas’s injury status over the past couple of years — with many thinking that Thomas’ refusal to use team doctors in the offseason may have hindered his chances of returning sooner.

Nevertheless, Michael Thomas and Sean Payton still appear to have a lot of mutual respect shared. And on Tuesday, Thomas found out that after many years at the helm, Payton was ‘stepping away’ from football for some time.

Michael Thomas took to Twitter late Tuesday night to declare that no matter what the future holds for Sean Payton, he will always be a “legend”.

“Sean Payton is a LEGEND don’t ever forget that !” the receiver wrote.

Michael Thomas also referred to him and Sean Payton as “2 radicals”.

While Michael Thomas didn’t suit up for the Saints this year, his time in New Orleans may also be coming to an end.

The team is currently over $70 Million over next year’s salary cap — meaning they’ll likely have to dump some of their top talent in the offseason.

No matter what, it appears that Michael Thomas will always cherish the time he shared with Sean Payton.
