Mattress Mack Sends Message About Hedging His Bet in Potential $75 Million Payout

Return of the Mattress Mack.

The Houston Based business owner has thrown some serious cash on the Houston Astros this season, as he does every time his favorite team makes the MLB postseason. This year he has a chance to bring home a historic amount of money. The Texas-based sports bettor will win $75M if the Astros bring home this year’s World Series, the largest legal payout in sports betting history. The Mattress Mack placed a bunch of wagers on Houston totaling around $10M.

Those futures bets differ in size and odds, with the most notable being a $3M bet at +1000 chances. Now most people assumed he’d hedge his bet, and at least secure a nice little payday. But It doesn’t look like he’ll be backtracking on his bets with the series quickly approaching. Just in case you’re unfamiliar with how a hedge works.  A hedge is when you place money on the other side of your bet. It guarantees that you at the very least receive a payout, but also lowers the potential winnings.

In this case, the Mattress Mack would eliminate the possibility of going home empty handed by placing some money on the Phillies, while still holding on to that Astros slip.

No matter which side wins if the Mattress Mack hedged his bet, he would win.  He’s not budging, though. The gambler posted the following message on Twitter Wednesday.

Mack’s not backing down from his bet. We’ll see if he regrets not hedging, but if he does win big, he’ll be pretty glad he didn’t .
