Matthew Stafford had a career-defining year in 2021-22. But the veteran gunslinger was almost in a completely different scenario.
According to NFL insider Peter Schrager, Stafford was open to joining the Indianapolis Colts (as well as the Rams). But Indy could not meet the Lions’ high asking price, so Stafford ended up in a much better situation.
“Matthew Stafford was willing to be a Colt last year & they didn’t go over the top to get him,” Schrager said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
So, the Colts ended up settling for a lackluster season of Carson Wentz (and have since moved on). While the Rams hit the jackpot and rode Matthew Stafford all the way to a Super Bowl championship.
Colts fans will undoubtedly be enraged after hearing this news. Especially being as their team has been sound in all three phases for the past few season, outside of the quarterback position.
After trading Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders this week, the latest reports out of Indy is that they have entered the trade market for Niners QB Jimmy Garoppolo.
