Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans  had to be stretchered off the ice on Wednesday night after being trucked by Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele following an empty-net goal in the final minute of the game.

After the play, many Canadiens players spoke out against the ‘dirty’ play. And Defenseman Joel Edmundson even vowed revenge if Scheifele were to make a return during the series.

While it was bound to be a bloodbath similar to the treatment Tom Wilson got after his hit on New York Rangers star Artemi Panarin at the end of the regular season, it’s looking like Mark Scheifele’s year could be over.

The NHL announced on Thursday night that Scheifele was suspended for four games after knocking Jake Evans unconscious.

Mark Scheifele argued in his hearing that he was trying to make a play to prevent the goal, but the momentum drove him into Jake Evans.

The NHL ruled that Scheifele wasn’t making a defensive play, and was targeting Jake Evans despite already conceding the empty net goal.

Mark Scheifele would now need the Jets to take the series to at least six games if he wants to play again during this season.

Montreal is currently up 1-0 in the series.
