Marcus Stroman is officially off the market.

With the pending lockout looming at midnight, teams were getting more close to landing the ace. But as the day progressed, it became more and more clear that the Cubs were the closest to landing the former Met.

Sure enough, Marcus Stroman himself took to Twitter to announce that he was, indeed, planning to sign with the Cubs.

It’s pretty cool to see a player break news that he’s signing with a particular club. But that’s pretty true to form for Marcus Stroman. He has one of the most active social media presences of any MLB player out there.

Last season, Stroman pitched to the tune of an impressive 3.02 ERA, and was one of the most consistent performers during the Mets’ demise late in the season.

For the Cubs, they still have a lot of work to do before they can get to the top of the National League again. But signing a pitcher of Marcus Stroman’s caliber is a heckuva start.
