Lions Head Coach Admits He’s an ‘A-Hole’ for Cutting Long Snapper on 40th Birthday

The business of the  NFL can be a cutthroat one. Sometimes you must make decisions that will ultimately paint yourself as a dick. Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell called himself an “asshole” for cutting long snapper Don Muhlbach on his 40th birthday. Detroit released Muhlbach on Tuesday after playing for the Lions for 17 years.

He played in 260 games for the Lions, the second-most in franchise history.

“There’s no way to sugarcoat that,” he told reporters Thursday, according to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard. “I’m an asshole. That’s about the best way to put it, and I hate it. There’s no way around it really, but ultimately that falls on me. It’s my fault. Don’s a hell of a dude. It sucks.”

Campbell wasn’t very specific on the reasoning behind the move. When asked about it two days ago, saying only that “it was time.”

The guy played for 17 years, it was inevitable.
