Kyle Shanahan Throws Brandon Aiyuk Under The Bus After Week One Benching

When speaking about the limited playing time for Brandon Aiyuk, Kyle Shanahan seemingly threw his star receiver under the bus

If you have 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk on your fantasy team, then you probably aren’t the biggest Kyle Shanahan fan right about now.

After bursting onto the scene during his rookie season, Aiyuk looked destined to be a pivotal part of Shanahan’s offense in 2021. But in a shocker, Aiyuk was only in for 15 snaps during the 49ers’ win over Detroit this past weekend.

When speaking on the benching, Kyle Shanahan made it clear that he wasn’t exactly pleased with where Brandon Aiyuk was at.

“He’s been a little inconsistent because he’s been in and out with his injury and stuff,” Shanahan said. “If he wants to be out there every single play, he’s got to be a lot better than the guy behind him.”

During his 15 snaps, Brandon Aiyuk didn’t haul in a single reception.

Its unclear if Kyle Shanahan is trying to send a message to Aiyuk, or if he legitimately believes that he has better options on his roster.

But one thing is for certain, Week One was not a good sign for Brandon Aiyuk, and he’ll hope to get out of his coach’s doghouse in the very near future.
