Kris Versteeg And Kevin Bieksa Get Into Hilariously Awkward Debate About Blackhawks-Canucks Rivalry

There is still no love lost between Kris Versteeg and Kevin Bieksa.

Bieksa was on the Canucks throughout the fierce 2010s rivalry between the Blackhawks and Vancouver. Versteeg spent time with Chicago. So when a discussion about the direction of the Vancouver Canucks’ franchise came up while the two were working as analysts, Versteeg saw an opportunity to take a shot.

“I’m just happy kevin talked about ‘in his career he never had to play meaningless hockey games,'” Versteeg said on Sportsnet. “Because when he was playing meaningful hockey games, I was often eliminating him in the playoffs.”

Bieksa would respond later in the video by saying, “Besides Kane and Toews, Seabrook, Keith,  you could put 17 monkeys on the roster and they still would’ve won all those Stanley Cups.”

With Kris Versteeg, the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Canucks in 2009 and 2010. Bieksa and the Canucks got some revenge in 2011, though, when they eliminated the Hawks in the first round of the playoffs. However, Versteeg has the ultimate bragging rights.

Unfortunately for Kevin Bieksa, the Canucks could never win the Stanley Cup in the 2010s, while the rival Blackhawks were able to take home three. I’m not sure how much of the had to do with Kris Versteeg, but he was along for the ride, and like he said…he was a “good guy in the room”.
