Kliff Kingsbury Speaks On Rumors Of Him Being The Top Candidate To Replace Lincoln Riley At Oklahoma

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury was asked about the rumor that he was the top candidate to replace Lincoln Riley for Oklahoma

Would Kliff Kingsbury leave the Arizona Cardinals to take over for Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma?

Obviously, that sounds ridiculous. But when it was announced that Riley was leaving OU to become the Trojans head coach, the first report was that the Sooners were going to go all-in on getting Kingsbury.

It would appear to be common sense that the Cardinals would break the bank on a contract extension for Kliff Kingsbury after the season. He’s built one of the best offenses in the NFL with MVP candidate Kyler Murray under center. And his team seems to be one of a few teams with a clear chance to win a Super Bowl this season.

But after a report like that drops, questions need to be asked. And on Monday, Kingsbury gave the standard response when asked if he was interested in the Oklahoma gig.

Kliff Kingsbury knows he has all the leverage in the world when his agent sits down with the Cardinals after the season to discuss an extension. And he’d be pretty dumb not to at least use the Oklahoma rumors as a bargaining chip.

No, I don’t think there’s any chance that Kingsbury will leave his situation to go to Norman, Oklahoma. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t going to be any implications to getting a mega-contract offer from a prominent college football powerhouse.

It’s starting to become clear that Kliff Kingsbury is one of the top young coaches in the world. And everyone is going to kicking the tires on a potential move from Zona.

It’s time for the Cardinals to give him a pen and let him with his own contract, he’s earned it.
