Karl-Anthony Towns stole the show in the NBA on Monday night.

The star big man led the T-Wolves with a franchise-record 60 points during their 149-139 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

On Tuesday morning, Karl-Anthony Towns revealed that he was playing with a heavy heart. Two years prior to the game, he was taking his mom to the hospital after she contacted COVID-19. She would end up losing her life during her stay.

The center took to Twitter to dedicate his performance last night to his mom, Jacqueline Cruz.

“Yesterday was two years to the date that my parents walked into the ER at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ and were admitted with COVID-19. The same hospital that my mother gave me life, and tragically, the same hospital where I saw her life begin to slip away,” he wrote.

“Two years later, I walked into AT&T Center with the greatest guardian angel that I could ever ask for and dropped 60 against the winningest coach of all time.

I say this to say…no matter what life throws at you, you can come out of it stronger. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. Miss you Momma. This game….my life…is for you”

Karl-Anthony Towns certainly had the best performance of his career on Monday. And perhaps it was the greatest performance any Timberwolves player has ever had in the team’s long history.

Now, Towns and the up-and-coming T-Wolves sit at an impressive 40-30 on the season, and would be playing in the play-in tournament if the NBA season ended today.

Regardless of what happens in the future, it’s clear that Karl-Anthony Towns will always have his mom on the front of his mind through it all.
