Count Julius Erving as a loyal backer of old-school basketball. In principle, I agree that some of the league’s moving parts and ‘superteams’ stuff is getting out of hand, but Erving’s latest take is just ridiculous.

While making an appearance on the Posted Up podcast, Erving was asked to make up a first and second NBA team made up of the top-10 NBA players of all-time. The list had some issues. First of all, Erving had Michael Jordan on his second team, which is an issue in-and-of itself. But the thing that had most people irked was that LeBron James didn’t even make an appearance in Erving’s ten players.

Check out Ervings’ two teams:

The LeBron fans came out in droves to defend their king against Dr. J.

I see where Dr. J is coming from, but c’mon. LeBron James is one of the greatest players of all-time…how can we even dispute it at this point?

You can dislike LeBron’s political views, his on-court antics, his assembling of super teams, but you have to acknowledge his place in NBA history. Time and time again the guy proves himself to be the greatest basketball player that we’ve seen in a long time.

Julius Erving is great, but he needs to give credit where it’s due.
