New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is (maybe) celebrating his 69th birthday today. While Belichick has lost the dynasty he once had with Tom Brady as his quarterback, he’s still to thank for so many years of greatness.

One of Belichick’s biggest success stories was receiver Julian Edelman, who recently retired. Bill turned Edelman from a seventh round draft pick, to one of the greatest receivers of our generation, and a Patriots legend forever.

Edelman had a message for Bill Belichick on his birthday.

“All I needed was an opportunity. Thanks for everything coach. Happy Birthday BB,” Edelman said on his Twitter.

The feeling is mutual between Bill Belichick and Julian Edelman. After the receiver announced his retirement, Belichick sent out a lengthy, heartfelt statement.

Even if Bill Belichick never wins much again, he’ll always be touted as one of the greatest coaches of all-time because of what he was able to accomplish over the past 20 years. Julian Edelman has a lot to do with that.
