Jon Lester Is Buying Beer For The Entire City Of Chicago

Jon Lester is on the cusp of becoming a free agent after a 6-year stay in Chicago with the Cubs. The big lefty took to Twitter early Friday morning to let his fans know that he’s got a gift for them. And it’s a good one.

Regardless of if you’re a Cubs fan, if you’re in Chicago you better dress up as one this weekend. Free beer on Jon Lester? Sign me up. White Sox fans who didn’t have a Halloween costume lined up just got saved by Lester. However, I don’t really think there are any requirements as far as attire. All you have to do is show up and tell the bartender to put it on Jon’s tab. Sounds like a good deal if you ask me.

This may not actually be the end of Jon Lester in Chicago, but it’s a nice little treat for Cubs fans either way. The lefty is coming off a tough 2020, finishing his 12 starts with a 5.16 ERA. So what’s the next destination for Lester? Well, back in May he said he would be open to going back to Boston. And they could definitely use his help.

“Absolutely it would be cool to go back and finish my career where it all started,” he said in a wide-ranging interview. “But, I’ve got a little time before I really have to sit down and weigh that decision, even if it’s something where they want me back. Hopefully, I’m still a good enough caliber pitcher that the want of my services will still be out there for people. We’ll see.”

Wherever Jon Lester ultimately ends up, Cubs fans can be happy that he delivered a title to the city of Chicago. And now he’s delivering some free beer. What more can you ask for?
