Johnny Manziel Says Getting Arrested Led To Heisman Trophy

Johnny Manziel may have never taken over college football if it wasn’t for his arrest in 2012. Johnny Football was famously arrested after getting into fights after a night out in college station, and being found with a fake I.D. on him.

Months later, and Manziel was a breakout star during his redshirt freshman season for the Aggies. Johnny says that wasn’t a coincidence. Manziel says that the punishment he went through built him into the football player he was.

“In 11 days, I won the (starting) job doing these sprints, doing the whole thing,” Manziel said on his “Ball Don’t Lie” podcast with Mike. “I believe all that was directly correlated to me running those sprints at the beginning of the year and being in the dumbest shape on the team.”
“At the end of the year, I rushed for 1,500 yards. I outrushed Todd Gurley in the SEC. Nuts. My redshirt freshman year, the year I won the Heisman.”

So, if Johnny Manziel never got arrested, he might never have been an elite college QB?

“Without a doubt. I got punished and I won a Heisman for it. It’s crazy. The bad doesn’t always turn out so bad down the line.”

During the podcast, Manziel also admitted something that everyone else already knows. He could have been so much better if he had any work ethic whatsoever.

“I think every day if I would of done what I need to do in between seasons, not only would I of won another Heisman, I would of put my team in a position to win a national championship.”

Manziel went on to say, “I wasn’t voted team captain after winning the Heisman because I didn’t show up to workouts, I didn’t do what I need to do and I wasn’t accountable to guys on my team.”

Johnny Manziel is now playing football for the Zappers of the Fan Controlled Football League. In this role, he can party all he wants, and nobody holds him to a higher standard. Seems perfect for him.

What a waste of such a great talent.
