Welcome back to the negative Nancy of the NHL broadcasters as John Tortorella ripped apart Trevor Zegras for his over-the-net assist on Sonny Milano’s incredible goal earlier this week.

If you’ve ever seen an interview with John Tortorella or know anything about the former NHL coach, you know that he loves to rip apart young players and flashy moves.
Tortorella didn’t hold back Friday night as he started off by saying the goal was tremendously skilled, but then quickly makes sure the people know that he doesn’t think it’s good for the game and that even though all the kids are doing it in practice now. Not to mention the fact that Coach Torts then goes back to his old-school roots to remind everyone that if they had done a play like this in the early 2000s that they would have gotten their heads taken off.
Torts then includes that he would have had a talk with the people involved after the game and then tries to once again argue how far the game as gone away from what it should be.
Yes Tortorella, that’s why you’re still a coach on the NHL, because you ‘know’ how the game ‘should be played’.
Here is the video of the incredible goal that has gone viral:

Get off my lawn Tortorella!
The best part of it all is that Sonny Milano was the 16th overall pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2014. Unfortunately for Milano, John Tortorella was hired as the Blue Jackets coach in 2015 and truly never appreciated Milano’s skill and it was clear the two wouldn’t make a good fit.
Milano managed to crack the lineup in the 2017-2018 season playing in 55 games and scoring 14 goals under Tortorella. Milano was then traded to Anaheim in late February of 2020 in a deal for Devin Shore.
Milano played just 116 games in his 5 years in Columbus scoring a total of 20 goals. In his brief 38 games with the Ducks, Milano has already scored 10 times.
