John Rahm may very well be one of the top three golfers in the entire world. But on Thursday, he made a gaffe that just continues to prove how infuriating the sport can be.

During the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Rahm had a tap-in putt for par. But when he want to punch it in, Rahm kind of whiffed, hitting the ball ever so slightly.

The announcers were completely confused after seeing the terrible mistake.

John Rahm was quickly trolled all over the web for the mistake.

John Rahm — currently the world’s #1 ranked player — was clearly frustrated after the putt.

He’s currently +1 on the day, eight shots back of Rory McElroy for the lead  Before the tournament, Rahm spoke on what an honor it was to play in the late Arnold Palmer’s event.

“He’s the King,” Rahm said, via Golf Channel. “There’s very few players in the history of this game that have the support and created the buzz around them that he did with more than just their golf game. Obviously, Jack and Tiger were unbelievable at what they did, but two players who stand out were Seve and Arnold.

“They had something special about them; maybe it was the shot-making ability, maybe it was the imagination, very different way of playing the game, I don’t know, whatever it was made them as big of stars as the two greatest that the game has ever seen, and maybe more impactful in certain ways.”

For John Rahm to make a charge this weekend, he’s going to need to put that putt far, far behind him.
