While Philadelphia 76ers fans were happy to hear that Joel Embiid would be playing through a small meniscus tear in his knee for Game 2 against the Hawks on Tuesday, they were not pleased that their big man was not named the MVP prior to the game.
That honor went to Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, who became the first big man to win the award since Shaquille O’ Neal in 2000.
Despite Embiid’s monster season, he had to settle for second place in the MVP voting.

Needless to say, Philly fans were pissed off, thinking Joel Embiid got snubbed for the award.
Joel Embiid got 97 of 100 available MVP votes.
That means three voters didn’t have him even as a 5th place MVP.
What an absolute joke. pic.twitter.com/C4pWMErGU3

I respect a lot of the people who have NBA MVP votes but they made the wrong decision. There was no player in the NBA more valuable to his team than @JoelEmbiid this year

Even more fans came out in support of Joel Embiid:

The best player in the NBA this season was @JoelEmbiid. Period.

I disagree but I enjoy both offense and defense. https://t.co/jNzI9pNM6Z

Joel Embiid may not have won the MVP this season, but his 76ers will have a chance to compete for a title, where he would have the opportunity to prove all of his haters wrong.
It might not have been Joel Embiid’s moment on Tuesday night. But I wouldn’t be surprised if “The Process” gets his due in the near future.
