Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals received the worst case scenario news today. The MRI came back on Burrow’s injury, and it was devastating for the quarterback’s near-term NFL future.
MRI revealed more damage than anticipated: Bengals’ QB Joe Burrow tore his ACL, MCL, and suffered other structural issues in his knee as well, per @Ben_Baby and me.

According to Adam Schefter, the MRI revealed “more damage than anticipated.” The rookie signal caller tore both his ACL and MCL and “suffered other structural issues in his knee.” Schefter weighed in on the time table for Joe Burrow’s recovery.
These types of knee injuries, like the one Joe Burrow suffered, usually sideline players anywhere from 9-12 months, though each person heals and rehabs differently. But no matter how quickly Burrow does or doesn’t recover, next year’s status is now in question. https://t.co/XfUUMbMPOx

Yikes. A 9-12 months recovery timeframe puts Joe Burrow’s status for the 2021 NFL season very much in doubt.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor shared his thoughts on when Burrow would be back.
Asked Zac Taylor to clarify if Joe Burrow will be ready for the START of the '21 season, he said, "he'll be ready for the 2021 season."
Asked again, to be clear, if he'll be ready for the START of the season, he said, "I've said what I said." #Bengals

“He’ll be ready for the 2021 season,” Taylor said in his presser today. Taylor would not say whether he thought Joe Burrow could be back for the start of the 2021 NFL season or not.
Now, it is important to note that everyone heals differently. It would be impossible for Zac Taylor, or anyone else, to know exactly when Burrow will be back to 100%. I do think the best course of action for the Cincinnati Bengals would be to take their sweet time. If that means we don’t see Burrow until 2022, then so be it. The guy is too valuable to the organization, and rushing him back would be a huge mistake.
I also don’t think the Bengals will be contending any time soon, so there shouldn’t really be a rush to get Burrow back for next season. The franchise can use the time and the draft capital they should gain to add some pieces for 2022 and beyond.
With that being said, we all want to see Burrow in 2021. The guy was having a phenomenal rookie season, and he’s already one of the most likable players in the league. Hopefully Burrow gets healthy, and comes back even stronger. Who knows when that will be. Before receiving the news of the true extent of his injury, Burrow tweeted his optimism about next season.
Thanks for all the love. Can’t get rid of me that easy. See ya next year✊

All we can do now is pray for a speedy recovery for Joe Burrow.
