Jets Owner Woody Johnson Being Confused By The High Number Of Black People At A Black History Month Event And Going To A Club Called ‘Whites’ Is An All-Time Bad Look

TMZ Sports – NY Jets owner Woody Johnson — who’s also the U.S. ambassador to the U.K. — was investigated by the State Dept. over alleged racist and sexist comments to his staff, according to CNN.

Here are some of the allegations …
— In 2018, Johnson allegedly made racist remarks before an event for Black History Month. CNN says he “appeared agitated and asked if the audience would be ‘a whole bunch of Black people?'”
Multiple sources told CNN that Johnson openly questioned the need for Black History Month — and “argued that Black fathers didn’t remain with their families and that was the ‘real challenge.'”— Multiple sources tell CNN that Johnson would hold official meetings at a fancy “men’s only” club in London called “White’s” — where no female diplomats were allowed to attend.— Johnson is also accused of making all sorts of offensive statements about women during his job as ambassador … many of which focused on looks.

CNN described some of the comments this way … “According to one source, at certain public events, Johnson would start his remarks by quipping about how many pretty women were present — reducing them to decorative objects in a way a source described as ‘just sort of cringeworthy.'”

That is a lot of allegations against Jets owner Woody Johnson. And while they’re all awful looks, I feel like some of these items you just have to laugh at for how tone deaf they are.

For one: Woody Johnson once worried there may be too many Black people…at a Black History Month event??? And then he still said racist things? Wouldn’t that be a time to really avoid being a racist, especially when you’re acutely aware of a “whole bunch of Black people” hearing you speak?

The sexism and degradation isn’t the most shocking thing from a wealthy old white and powerful guy. It’s the type of situation that happens all of the time and there’s no room for it. But to do that and go to a “men’s only” club that bars women and is called “White’s” feels a little too on the nose. Like I’m sure it’s not some club where they all sit around and devise new — or, based on how outdated the rest of this is, decades tried and true — ways to be racist and sexist. But that is peak bad optics for someone who clearly hasn’t shown the most racial sensitivity in the past. Internet users have drummed up conspiracy theories based around business establishments with far less.

Either way, we’ll see how this ends up with Woody Johnson. Jerry Richardson was forced out of the Panthers with his statue outside the stadium taken down so there’s a recent comparison to consider. Either way, it’ll be quite the tale for the fellas over at White’s.
