The New York Jets are still on course to become the third team to go 0-16 in NFL history. After scaring fans by nearly adding a game to the win column, they eventually lost 31-28 to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Vegas fumbled the ball with nine minutes left to play with a 24-21 lead. Darnold and the Jets marched down the short field with the assistance of an unnecessary roughness penalty. Johnson capped off the drive on a one-yard touchdown to give the Jets a 28-24 lead with less than six minutes to play.
A failed fourth down conversion in the red zone during the final two minutes spelled doom for the Raiders. After a 6-3 start, Vegas lost to Kansas City in a nail-biting primetime duel before suffering the worst loss of the season to Atlanta. Favored by three, the Raiders lost by 37 to create the biggest net scoring difference of the year.
Now on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, a loss to the winless Jets would end their optimistic campaign. But Carr and company got the ball back with 35 seconds to play and no timeouts. Carr missed an open Agholor in the end zone who split through the secondary, only to hit Ruggs on the ensuing play.

Ruggs and his lightning speed burned the secondary and scored a 46-yard touchdown with five seconds remaining on the clock. Ruggs had just 312 yards and a score before his 84-yard performance today.
Now the Jets are still in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 pick. All eyes are on Trevor Lawrence, deemed the best QB prospect since Andrew Luck. If the Jets happen to win amid their dreadful season, the Jaguars are biting at their heels with an 11-game losing streak of their own.
The battle for the bottom of the barrel will remain interesting in the final month of the season.
