Jerry Jones Reveals Dallas’ Plan For The Future Regarding The Quarterback Position

Dallas Cowboys still in NFC East hunt

The Dallas Cowboys have been hurting at the quarterback position since the fall of Dak Prescott. However, they are on pace to have a pretty high draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Dallas is now 2-7 on the season following Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. With that record, the Cowboys are currently in the number four position looking ahead to next year’s draft. With Dak Prescott injured and unsigned for the longterm, would the Cowboys consider selecting a quarterback at the top of the NFL Draft? Jerry Jones revealed his plan on Tuesday morning.

“You’re asking me is it crazy to bring the idea up and I’m answering it, yes. We’re playing games here guys, but it’s not the thing to be talking about here at all. You know, Dak is our quarterback,” Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan this morning.
According to Jerry Jones, Dak Prescott is the future at quarterback in Dallas and they aren’t even considering drafting another one. No matter how poorly the rest of the season turns out. Jones said Dak is “ahead of schedule” (maybe with a four-month recovery time rather than the projected five-to-six months) and the franchise remains confident that it will come to an agreement with Prescott after the end of this season.
To me, it seems crazier to mortgage your future on a guy who is out for the season that you haven’t reached an agreement with thus far. But that seems to be the mentality of Jerry Jones and the Cowboys organization. My question is if Dak has been the guy all along, why wait until he suffered a season-ending injury to strike a deal?
I’m not 100% convinced that Jerry Jones will make good on his word and resign Dak under his current injury status, but we shall see. However, for now, Dak Prescott is still poised to be the quarterback for the future in Dallas.
