Last week, it looked like the Jaguars were all but set to hire former QB and current Buccaneers quarterback coach Byron Leftwich to become their next head coach.

But shortly thereafter, it was rumored that a snag in the deal was pertaining to Jags GM Trent Baalke — who Leftwich preferred not to work with due to his negative reputation around league circles.

Now, it’s being reported that Byron Leftwich has removed his name from the Jaguars GM search. And apparently, it has everything to do with his unwillingness to work with Trent Baalke.

Byron Leftwich has been the Buccaneers OC since the 2019 season, working with Tom Brady for the past two seasons. But now that TB12 has announced his retirement, it’s hard to imagine that Leftwich would prefer to work with whatever QB gets brought in to Tampa over the exciting prospect of being Trevor Lawrence’s head coach in Jacksonville.

Perhaps that decision says something about Leftwich’s stubbornness, or maybe it’s just clear that Baalke is that bad at his job.

Either way, it looks like Byron Leftwich and the Jaguars will move on after it seemed like they were destined to get a deal done just a short while ago.
