On Tuesday, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer admitted that when he was making decisions on final cuts to his roster, he factored in which players were vaccinated or not.

“Everyone was considered,” Meyer said to ESPN. “That was part of the [considerations such as] production, let’s start talking about this, and also is he vaccinated or not? Can I say that that was a decision maker? It was certainly in consideration.”

Shortly after his comments, the NFLPA announced they were launching an investigation into the roster decision-making process by Urban Meyer and the Jaguars.

After the Urban Meyer admission resulted in some debate, the Jaguars released a statement.

The team tried to walk back the comments from the head coach saying, “no player was released because of their vaccination status”.

Urban Meyer already let the cat out of the bag that the team was (obviously) interested in vaccination status prior to making their decision.

The team even added in their statement that “availability is one of the many factors taken into account”.

The NFL has made it very clear in their new rules and COVID protocols that unvaccinated players will be more at-risk of being unavailable for an extended period of time.

Urban Meyer would be foolish not to take all information into account before making roster decisions.
