Tony La Russa has not managed a Major League Baseball game since 2011. Maybe he’s bored. Maybe the Sox job is too good for him to pass up on. Either way, Chicago sports insiders seem to believe that La Russa will be the next manager of the Chicago White Sox.
Don’t be shocked at a major SOX announcement on Thursday and yes, it’s probably what— and WHO— you think it is

La Russa has been the guy tied to the White Sox job for several weeks now. That’s who Dan Roan is talking about in this post, no question about it. Now, it’s not a done deal, but it seem like it is gaining traction. People on Twitter have been reacting to the idea of the 76-year-old La Russa coming out of retirement to manage the White Sox.

@Ken_Rosenthal can you verify? I don't care for the White Sox but hiring LaRussa for this club would just be wrong on so many levels

Apparently, La Russa is already thinking about who he wants to bring with him to Chicago.
Sources confirm Tony La Russa has talked to close associates about possible coaching and baseball support system positions if he is named the White Sox manager.

Call me crazy, but I don’t think the Sox hiring Tony La Russa is the worst idea in the world. Hear me out. It’s not the best year for managerial candidates. A.J Hinch and Alex Cora are the top 2 guys on most lists, and hiring either of those men would do more harm than good for any organization.
Hiring La Russa is the safe play. He may be old but he knows his shit. He’s not going to tweak in the big situations, and he knows how to win in October. That means he is everything that Rick Renteria was not. If the Sox do end up hiring Tony La Russa, I wouldn’t be shocked to see them win a lot of baseball games.
They have one of the better young teams in the game. All they need is for someone to come in and not screw it up. La Russa can be that guy.
