If you’ve been in and around social media in the past few weeks, you would have seen a significant rise in the Thiago Alcantara slander.

Thiago slander is nothing new but the increase in recent times has been rather enormous. I’m not even sure why but there you have it.

I dont even know if there’s any much reason for the those who call him out to, he’s literally won a trophy every single season for the past 10 years.

And then he’s being one of the best performers on his team. But ever since he transferred to Liverpool, he’s been on the receiving end of endless trolling mostly from opposition fans who are rather upset that Thiago chose to join Liverpool over their teams.

Quite why Thiago slander is resurfacing and looking like a thing now is anyone’s guess. The latest has seen him tagged an ‘idea merchant’. What that means is that he doesn’t ever provide goals or assists, or even key passes. Just ideas. Look how this twitter user perfectly defined it..

For someone that’s usually praised for his technical & creative abilities, he managed to go the entire 2020 without providing an assist. You’d have to go as far back as November 2019 for the last time Thiago assisted a goal and that was for Spain in a European Championship qualifier against Malta. You’d have to go even further back to April 2019 for the last time he assisted in a league game.

So as long as he doesn’t score or assist, you can expect the jokes to keep going on yet especially if Liverpool eventually end this season trophyless.
