Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy might not be thinking about landing a head coaching gig right now with his team getting ready to face the Cleveland Browns tonight. But with many teams deciding on their next head coach, it looks like Bienemy might be left high and dry, yet again.
The Jets hired Robert Saleh. The Jaguars hired hired Urban Meyer. The Falcons look like they’re going with Arthur Smith, and the same can be said for Brian Daboll and the Chargers. The Lions, Texans and Eagles still haven’t made their decision, but they don’t appear to be interested in Bienemy.
All of this begs the question, why? Eric Bienemy has been one of the top assistants in the league since he took over for Matt Nagy as Chiefs OC. His offense is unstoppable, he speaks well, his players love him, what’s the problem. Why can’t Bienemy land a job? Patrick Mahomes recently called out any team that passes on his OC.
“His track record speaks for itself,” Mahomes said via Pro Football Talk. “The type of man he is, the way he can control and be a leader of the locker room and the way that he coaches and schemes he brings to us. If he doesn’t, people are crazy.”
Nonetheless, it is widely reported that Bienemy will be passed up on again this year.
Been texting with an NFL source this morning who thinks there's a very strong chance Eric Bieniemy isn't hired for a HC opportunity this cycle.

This just makes no sense to me. Concerns about Reid’s coaching tree? The same tree that has churned out the likes of John Harbaugh, Doug Pederson and Sean McDermott. Sure, Matt Nagy might not be doing a spectacular job with the Bears, but he also turned the organization around in year one when he went 12-4.
The timing thing seems sketchy to me, too. Teams wait all the time for their guy to finish his run in the playoffs. Wouldn’t you want a guy who’s coaching a team that makes a deep run in the playoffs?
Eric Bienemy not getting a HC job just seems ridiculous, and the NFL might have a real problem on their hands.
