Gunnersaurus Is Back At The Emirates! But Is It The Same Man In The Suit?

EPL DFS Picks for Fantasy Soccer lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel today 2/24/22

November 2, 2013: English Premier League Soccer - Arsenal v Liverpool - Emirates Stadium in London, United Kingdom - The Arsenal mascot Gunnersaurus takes his place alongside the team as they line up to shake hands

Arsenal’s official mascot, Gunnersaurus has returned to the Emirates Stadium for the first time since he was ‘sacked’ in October.

Jerry Quy, who had colossally served in the role for the past 27 years, was relieved of his duty alongside fifty-four other Arsenal co-workers last month as the club sought to shed running costs in response to the ravaging after-effect of the coronavirus crisis.

The North London outfit faced heavy criticism from fans and even top celebrities when the news of his sack broke.

Mesut Ozil, who has recently been an outcast at the club even tried to intervene, offering to give part of his huge £350,000-per-week wage to regularly repay the club the costs of the mascot’s services as long as they keep him.

Now,the Gunners hierarchy have been forced to break their silence after 35 days, re-emphasizing the importance of the mascot to the Arsenal identity.

An official statement from the club on Tuesday read: “As we’ve always said, Gunnersaurus is an important part of Arsenal and a popular figure for our fans around the world. Gunner never went away but due to the virus restrictions there have been limited opportunities for him to appear in public.”

However, there has been multiple classified reports stating that Quy -the regular mascot guy – will now be only a part of a wider group of people the club will employ for the role henceforth. Interestingly he was in fact, not the man in the suit in the announcement picture taken at the Emirates on Tuesday.

Still same mascot, but still the same man who’s donned the suit for the past two decades and more? Perhaps not.
