Gregg Popovich Blasts Donald Trump and Selfish Americans For Inept COVID-19 Response

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich normally doesn’t like talking to the media very much. That is, unless he’s speaking out against current president Donald Trump. Pop has made it very clear in the past that he is strongly against the president and pretty much everything he purports to stands for.

Today, Popovich let Trump have it once again. This time, it was about his response to COVID-19. The legendary San Antonio Spurs coach also talked about how he feels the COVID-19 virus has brought out the worst in our country.

“I’m disappointed in the fiber of our populous,” Popovich said, via a thread from Matthew Tynan of The Athletic. “We’re still more of an instant-gratification country. We think about ourselves more than the group, than the community. It’s just beyond my comprehension how somebody can talk about not wearing a mask shows that you’re for freedom, and you’re for America, and you’re for personal choice when it has nothing to do with that.”

“Intellectually, philosophically, emotionally — we’re all in this together. We’re all in the mud…we’re trying to save each other’s ass. But a large group of people can’t project and go beyond themselves in that sense, and that’s very disappointing. And I think it’s sad for the country.”

Gregg Popovich didn’t stop there, either. He made sure to throw shade at president Trump’s heavy golfing habits.

“But what does he do? He golfs and spreads lies,” Popovich said. “He has nothing whatsoever to do with what’s going on here. It’s sad, but soon it will be over. We just hope he doesn’t burn the whole thing down on his way out.”

You gotta love Gregg Popovich, he’s going to speak his mind no matter what. Pop is also going to stand up for what  he believes in.

Donald Trump doesn’t appear to be making many friends in the sports world. He has a known feud with LeBron James and has gone after NFL players for kneeling during the National Anthem. Add Gregg Popovich to this list of guys that are ready to see Trump out of office.

Soon enough Pop, soon enough.
