It has been a long time coming for Dustin Johnson. He is finally a major champion. He is finally a Masters champion. Not only did DJ win the tournament, but he absolutely dominated it. Johnson set records all along the way to his first green jacket.
The world No 1 finished the tournament 20 under par, breaking the 72-hole Masters scoring record jointly held by Tiger Woods in 1997 and Jordan Spieth in 2015. The previous record was -18.
One of the most incredible facets about Dustin Johnson’s Masters victory is that he just had the COVID-19 virus last month.
Back in October, it looked like Dustin Johnson might not even be able to play in the Masters tournament. Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 while getting ready for a tournament in Las Vegas. He had to isolate in his hotel room for over a week. Johnson couldn’t even get back to golf until the Houston Open last week. He talked about not being able to prepare the way he wanted to.
“If I hit a couple good shots, I’ll be happy,” Johnson said before the Houston Open, according to the Associated Press. “It’s more about just getting some reps and playing and practicing and getting ready for next week. Obviously, I’ve had way more time off than I wanted coming into Augusta.”

Well, apparently the extra time off was no hindrance for Dustin Johnson. He is now a Masters champion, and I would expect him to win some more majors before its all said and done.
DJ’s family was in Augusta to celebrate with him. In fact, Johnson’s brother is his caddie. he was emotional after being around for the ride.
Dustin Johnson’s brother Austin has been his caddy since 2013.
