Cameron Kinley signs contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Former Navy Football standout CB, Cameron Kinley, has been in the news recently as the Military is denying Kinley the ability to play in the NFL.

Kinely, 22, was the captain of the Navy team and upon graduating from the Academy signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The issue is that Kinley is being forced to complete his commission with the military.

The reason it has become so controversial is the fact that athletes from other military academies have been afforded the right to pursue NFL careers this year. Jon Rhattigan of Army and three Air Force athletes, Parker Ferguson, Nolan Laufenberg and George Silvanic, were all granted delayed commissions. Yet, without any explanation, Kinley was not.

Kinsley is currently on the hook for a five-year commission but is adamant that he is not trying to get out of his duties, he is simply asking for a postponement of them. He understands that he could have left prior to his Junior year without any commitment, but said publicly that he wanted to do both, play in the NFL and complete his commission.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has even gotten involved lately asking the President to step in and assist the situation.

In a recent interview with TMZ, Kinley stated that he will continue to push for his commission postponement and is looking at every option. Kinley also made a statement to U.S. President Joe Biden to step in and “consider helping me with this situation I am currently in and allowing me to delay my commission so that I can go play in the NFL and then serve my commitment whenever I get done playing.”

TMZ also asked his agent if they would take legal action if the decision was not reversed.

“That’s not the case here at this time,” Williams-Jenkins says … “What we’d like to do is take all the proper channels and do things correctly. We believe there is a case to be made from Cameron to be played.”

It seems like quite the headache for both the military and the NFL. Head Coach of the Buccaneers, Bruce Arians, told Kinley that he has until July 24th to figure out the situation.
