Yes, you read the headline properly. Fans at the French Ligue 1 game between Marseille and Nice pilled out of the stands to attack players on the field during a game.

The incident occurred during the 74th minute of the game as a fan threw a water bottle at Marseille’s Dimitri Payet in the middle of the game. Payet then threw the bottle back into the crowd, leading to an onslaught of water bottles hitting the pitch, then eventually fans leaving their seats as mobs started to storm the field.

It the Malice at the Palace got their own Netflix Documentary, then this one should be on the shortlist. It was an ugly scene as the game had to be halted as a countless number of fans stormed the pitch and were able to lay their hands on some of the players.

Some of the team officials and cameramen got involved, one throwing a one-punch KO to a fan that stormed the field.

Some of the Marseille players were visibly attacked as some had strangle marks on their necks.

It took officials and security over 6 minutes to start to calm fans down and push them back to their seats.

The game eventually was suspended with Nice leading 1-0 as Marseille players refused to take the pitch.
