Fifty-year-old Phil Mickelson has himself positioned for a weekend run at another major.

The lovable lefty had it all going on during the first two rounds of the PGA Championship, and went to the clubhouse in the solo lead for the championship. The five-time major champion has had a rough year, but seems to be turning his game around as of late. He didn’t even quality for the U.S. Open before receiving a special invitation to be a part of the field.

On Thursday and Friday, Mickelson looked in prime form, and fans are absolutely loving it.

I have no idea if Phil Mickelson can keep up this level of play throughout the weekend. We also don’t know who will emerge as the main competition for Phil down the wire.

What we do know, is that Phil Mickelson is incredibly fun to watch right now. And no matter what happens, it is great for the game of golf that he has given himself a puncher’s chance to come away with another trophy.

Who are we to say that Phil Mickelson can’t become the oldest major champion ever? Boy, what a story that would be.

Buckle up, it should be a fun weekend of golf.
