Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys are heading home after another disappointing trip to the playoffs. But they’re definitely left wondering, what if?

On the final play of the game, the Cowboys ran a draw play with quarterback Dak Prescott with about 14 seconds left. It seemed like they were going to have time to spike the ball in time for a shot to the end zone to win from about 20 yards out. But after the ref collided with some Dallas players when trying to spot the ball, the clock ran out before they could get a snap away.

Ezekiel Elliott was on the sidelines mic’d up during the play. And after the clock ran out and the game ended, Elliott was left shocked and stunned by the result.

“What happened? Hey, what happened?” Elliott asked people on the sidelines. “The referee got in the way?”

Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys offense were dominant all year long. But during the loss to the Niners, they could only muster up 17 points.

Now, Elliott will spend another offseason trying to get back into shape after another year riddled with injury and wear-and-tear. And the Cowboys will hope for some better fortune next season.

It’s only a matter of time before Dallas has to move off Ezekiel Elliott as their bell-cow running back.
