In the playoff loss to the Niners, Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was basically a non-factor.

He finished the game with just 12 carries for 31 yards, averaging 2.6 yards per carry. The former All-Pro was also shut out of the passing game.

The Cowboys offense finished the season as the NFL’s #1 offense. So when they only mustered 17 points against the Niners, it was cause for concern. But Ezekiel Elliott stands by the roster the Cowboys had this year. And he believes it was the best team he’s ever been on.

“Yeah, it’s disappointing. This is the best team I’ve been on,” Elliott admitted. “It is disappointing. We hurt. It hurts all of us. We’re all hurting. We just have to rally around each other and start thinking about next year.”

Ezekiel Elliott has clearly lost a step since his early years. But he remains a productive back in the NFL. And his contract currently has him among the highest paid players in the league.

On the year, the Cowboys running back finished the season with 1,002 yards on the ground and 10 touchdowns. It’s also being reported that he played through a partially torn PCL towards the end of the season.

Since Ezekiel Elliott came into the league, the Cowboys have struggled to win “the big game”. And now, they’ll be left waiting until next year, yet again.

Perhaps they’ll have another head coach, too.
