TMZ Sports – The mother of one of the drowning victims at Carl Crawford’s Texas mansion last month says the former MLB star is responsible for her son’s death … and now, she’s suing for over $1 million.

It’s all spelled out in new court docs obtained by TMZ Sports … in which Liban Hersi claims 38-year-old Crawford didn’t do enough to prevent tragedy from striking on May 16.

Hersi says her son fell in … and when another partygoer jumped in after him — they both tragically died.

Hersi claims Crawford could have done MUCH more to prevent the double drowning … saying he had no alarm system set up for the pool and claimed the swimming hole’s design was “unreasonably dangerous.”

Tragic situation here. A four-time MLB All-Star, Crawford issued a statement via social media on the incident which reads,

“My Hearts Heavy. The tragic events that occurred at my home will be with me forever. I’m at a loss for words I’ve struggled all week to manage my emotions and I keep thinking of the families of those who’ve passed and their grief, I know they have it the hardest.”
He continued, “They are the first and last thing I think of these days. Please keep them in your prayers, I know they will always be in mine.”

The lawsuit also claims that Crawford didn’t have fencing around the pool at his north Houston mansion and he didn’t take proper precautions in protecting the 5-year-old boy.

According to TMZ, Crawford was inside when the young boy wandered off and fell into the swimming pool out back. A woman went in after the boy in an attempt to save him, but drowned as well. Crawford reportedly did the best he could to try and revive them before paramedics arrived on the scene.

Crawford played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball for the Rays, Red Sox, and Dodgers from 2002 to 2016, and is one of the all-time greats in Tampa Bay Rays history.

Crawford has had some success during his post-playing career as CEO of the Houston independent record label 1501 Certified Entertainment and was the first executive to sign hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion.

Condolences go out to all those involved in the tragic incident.
