ESPN, the self proclaimed “worldwide leader in sports” has had a harder time holding that mantle in the social media era. There are several accounts faster than them that get news and info out faster than they are. There are others that do it in a funnier way that sports fans prefer. As a result, they’ve been forced to adapt. And there’s a reason “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is a saying.
Rather than the worldwide leader in sports, social media era ESPN is more like the Notre Dame football of sports. People still think they’re good every year (for some reason) based on that long established name brand, but in reality it’s been a very long time since they’ve done anything worth mentioning. (Maybe someone at ESPN has an imaginary dead girlfriend?)
This was on full display when they attempted a meme about one of the very few still good things about ESPN, Stephen A. Smith. Now this man is a meme factory (just ask SAS burner), so screwing up a meme about him is incredibly difficult to do. It’s like running the Titans offense, just hand the ball to Derrick Henry and get out of the way.
Well, ESPN took the snap, and rather than handing it to Henry, they punted it into the stands. On first down.
Just look at this:

Confused? Yeah…..
You weren’t the only one:

See ESPN? Stephen A memes aren’t supposed to be hard to do.
Yet look at all the confusion you created:

Another SAS meme. Perhaps someone can give ESPN some tips.
Does ANYONE get this thing ESPN tried to do?
I scrolled thru the comments hoping someone would explain this but it seems no one knows 😂

Apparently not.
This meme attempt is like having your NFL team coached by Jason Garrett year after year after year, no one knows how it kept getting approved. Yet it did. And here we are. Someone’s going to have to bring in intern Mike McCarthy to delete this and pretend like it never existed.
But hey, if they can’t get the “worldwide leader in sports” mantle back, perhaps they can team up with Adam Sandler for Jack and Jill 2 and give “the worldwide leader in failed comedy” a try.
They’re off to a good start.
