Emmitt Smith Isn’t Happy About The Cowboys Noncommittal Relationship With Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys failed to get a long-term deal done with Dak Prescott last season. Instead, they opted to give the quarterback the franchise tag. With the deadline approaching this year, many fans are wondering if Dak will have to play another year on the franchise tag. The Cowboys have until March 9 to use the franchise tag on Dak Prescott again, which means they’ll use the next couple of weeks trying to negotiate an extension. Another year of Dak Prescott under the franchise tag wouldn’t sit well with Emmit Smith, who recently shared a message for his former team.

“As a former player who has been in situations similar, I always ask myself this question – and this is what people should be asking of some of these people making the decisions – why would you want him to be committed to you if you’re not committed to him? He’s looking for your commitment to him,” Smith told Adam Lefkoe of Bleacher Report.

Emmitt Smith believes that the way the Cowboys front office has handled the contract with Dak proves that they are not committed to him as their quarterback long-term.
“He has proven to be the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, but are you unsure? By you delaying this process it says to me you aren’t sure about the future of Dak Prescott with the Cowboys.”
Dak Prescott looked excellent in the five games he played last season. He was on pace for a career year if he didn’t suffer the serious injury. Time is running out for the Cowboys to make a contract extension decision on Dak Prescott. Things might get interesting should he hit the open market.
