Duncan Keith Being Linked To One Team As A Potential Trade Suitor

The Chicago Blackhawks have been all over the news during the Stanley Cup Finals. And now, it appears there may be some more hockey headlines coming out of Chicago. This time, it’s about their veteran defenseman, Duncan Keith.

According to a report, the Blackhawks are currently looking for a trade partner for Keith. And have targeted teams in the Pacific Northwest.

There are rumblings Chicago is working on a potential Duncan Keith trade to either the Pacific Northwest or Western Canada. Word is Keith and team are working together to get him to a place he wants to go. We will see where this goes.

While the Edmonton Oilers are not in the Pacific Northwest, they would allow Duncan Keith to return home to Canada. Edmonton could also use some help shoring up their blue line in order to make a push for a Stanley Cup in 2022.

Sure enough, the Oilers are reportedly front-runners for Keith.

Per The Edmonton Journal:

“The Edmonton Oilers are going to have to proceed in this off-season as though Oscar Klefbom will not be able to play in 2021-22.

That means having a solid, reliable veteran D-man ready to go in his place, in case the worst-case scenario about Klefbom’s health and future come true. Because they’re just not sure about Oscar.

I believe Edmonton’s #1 target in that regard is Duncan Keith, and that the interest between Keith’s camp and the Oilers is mutual.”

Duncan Keith is now 38 years old, and his best hockey is well behind him. However, he still remains one of the Blackhawks’ top ice time leaders, and he should be able to fill in any team’s second line defense just fine.

Keith has been critical about the direction of the Blackhawks organization for a while now, and he would reportedly like to move closer to his kids (who live in Vancouver).

If Duncan Keith is going to waive his no-move clause for any team, I think the Edmonton Oilers would be at the top of the list.
