On Wednesday, Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio announced that veteran Teddy Bridgewater would be the teams starting quarterback, edging out Drew Lock in their Training Camp competition.

Shortly after the news that Teddy Bridgewater would be the guy in Denver, a clearly dejected Drew Lock took the podium to assure fans that he wasn’t going to stop working to get better.
Love this opening statement from @DrewLock23 after losing the starting job to Teddy Bridgewater. This is the mentally we all should carry in what we do. pic.twitter.com/YTaB6Qi5jj

While it could be likely that neither Teddy Bridgewater or Drew Lock are the long term fix for the Broncos, fans were irked that the team went with a journeyman over the kid with some potential.
During his three seasons with the Broncos, Drew Lock started a grand total of ONE preseason game. Solid development plan for a young QB. 🙄

If you your confidence in Drew Lock taking a step forward is so shaken that you don't even give him a chance over Teddy Bridgewater, there is absolutely zero excuse for passing on Justin Fields.

Drew Lock has more 3-TD games in his two seasons than Teddy does in seven (five if you don't count the two injury seasons which is completely fair).
Not trying to bring Teddy down, but promote that Drew is younger and clearly has more potential.#BroncosCountry

So Drew Lock spent the entire offseason working his ass off, studying, trying to resurrect his young career and now Denver is benching him for an average-at-best QB who didn't even outplay him in the preseason. Got it.

I am not saying Drew Lock is a better option (he is probably worse), but putting Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, KJ Hamler and Noah Fant in a dink-and-dunk Teddy Bridgewater offense feels like a colossal waste of resources

And with that, the Drew Lock era comes to an end.
Before it ever began.

Coming out of Missou, Drew Lock was a cocky kid with a big arm, plus mobility, and a knack for making plays.
It’s not that he did anything to prove he was the answer for Denver during his time with the team. He clearly struggles with interceptions, and might not be the most adept leader. But what has irked fans in Denver about the whole situation is that it doesn’t really seem like they ever gave the kid enough of a chance
If you’re going to be moving off of a guy you picked in the first round to take over the quarterback position, then you’d hope there’s a rock solid contingency plan in place. The Denver Broncos have journeyman “Teddy Two Gloves” to play safe football for one year before they’ll likely move on to someone else.
Perhaps Drew Lock deserves better, and maybe he’ll find a better situation than Denver somewhere down the road.
