The Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. is unquestionably a young player to watch in the league. He’s been a top prospect since a very young age and has some obvious offensive talents, including his basketball IQ.

As for his regular IQ, at least when it comes to virus understanding, well…it may leave something to be desired. Porter Jr. posted some of the following spicy takes about COVID and vaccination in general to his Snapchat before it was picked up by The Athletic contributor Clevis Murray:

I enjoy how Michael Porter Jr. said something with no scientific basis but recognized his need for slight PR by saying “It is a serious thing” only to immediately contradict it. It’s a tough line to walk between being a highly visible NBA player and a man who dabbles in nighttime conspiracy theories like some sort of scientifically unsound Batman.

And honestly I respect Porter Jr.’s right to believe things like “vaccinations are a form of voodoo” as long as he’s willing to learn very quickly that he’s wrong. Same thing as Kyrie Irving and his previous jaunts into flat Earth theories. These are things you could very quickly learn are incorrect based upon gigantic swaths of science. But the Internet and reporters and probably every single person in these guys’ lives will also immediately (and hopefully) correct them too. It can be a teachable moment for Michael Porter Jr. and a lot of other people out there. Maybe next he’ll get to the bottom of old urban legends about soda companies sterilizing people with their products or will defy all his research when he says “Bloody Mary” into a mirror three times and doesn’t get haunted by a ghostly apparition. Lots of low-hanging fruit out there.

And I’m still not ruling out this pet theory I conjured up yesterday:

I wouldn’t be shocked if Michael Porter Jr. has a few starchy copies of vintage Playboys from his pubescent days. And if you’re going to court the anti-vaxxer queen, you need to first bend the knee to her complete lack of medicine. I just hope one day that Michael Porter Jr. realizes that women really only want men for their understanding of how to avoid viral spread. Basketball money? Psh. A real life Dr. Mario, that’s what gets the ladies swooning.
