Degen Bet Of The Day: World Snooker Championship 2020

Degen Bet Of The Day: World Snooker Championship 2020!

Amidst the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic that careened through the United States like wildfire, the shelter-in-place order became prevalent in most locations while stripping us of our daily rituals of looking forward to professional and collegiate sports after a long day of sneaking applicable bets at the workplace.

Eventually, South Korea showed us an effective textbook example of “Handling A Pandemic: COVID Edition” and mitigated the outbreak with ease (by Stateside comparison). This led to the seamless return of the Korean Baseball Organization, with testing and preventative measures instilled to ensure we’d have an ongoing reason to get up and gamble at 2 a.m. in Southern California.

And while we’re just seeing the return of American pro sports coming to haphazard fruition, the constant uncertainty in regards to wagers-to-be-placed is reason for discomfort…unless you do elect to keep your attention geared toward concrete overseas action.

If setting an extra-early alarm on a Friday morning before work to watch your money burn slowly on a KBO bet is your flavor, then you’re going to have a hell of a sendoff party to July this Friday. Come 4 a.m. Pacific on July 31, we get the World Snooker Championship 2020 live from Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, United Kingdom, and the futures betting lines are thriving at a number of sportsbooks.

Before we take a look at some of the top contention for this year’s title of the table, let’s have a quick refresher as to the marvel known as Snooker.

So, what is Snooker?!

Essentially, snooker takes what’s more commonly known as a drinking man’s sport in pool and adds an involved element of obsessive-compulsive guidelines to make for a more sobering experience for participants.

Nothing adds to a round of Buzzkill Billiards like a championship at stake and some side wagers to be risked (aka: “invested in”; it’s a glass half-full/half-empty sort of stance to take). Besides, why else would you be setting your alarm a couple hours earlier in the morning?

Now, onto our futures wager candidates for the World Snooker Championship…

Favorite: Judd Trump (+250)

Not only is he the reigning titleholder, but the co-seventh place all-time snooker legend also has a full name that could find himself as a popular vote winner on a political ballot anywhere in about seven different states.

With a resume that earns him the top spot on the WST betting slip, Judd Trump has a career total 17 ranking titles in his 16-year tenure and has the look of a casino movie protagonist character to bolster his chances in the big game, even if ever so slightly.

The Old Guard: Mark Selby (+1,100)

Victorious on the championship table three times in the past six years, Mark Selby comes into Friday’s championship with some fantastic odds considering the recency bias one might hold for Selby’s track record (that is, if that’s something anyone can even have a recency bias for, more power to them).

Before ever winning his first title, Selby broke hearts in taverns from here to England in 2007, when he lost the championship to then-victor John Higgins from Scotland (who now finds himself a +1,600 to win).

The Older Guard: Ronnie O’Sullivan (+400)

The second favorite on the entire betting slip and top challenger to current champion Judd Trump, Ronnie O’Sullivan has an extremely sound list of experience and noteworthy accolades to rest his head on going into this title bid.

A winner of five World Championships, Ronnie O’Sullivan also has pulled down seven Masters titles and seven UK Championships, both record milestones. Given the slightly friendlier line and plethora of victories across multiple stages, I know exactly where my money will be riding come 4 a.m. Friday.

Pick: Ronnie O’Sullivan (+400)
