Adam Schefter is a good man, I firmly believe that. Now, as to what the fuck Deadspin writer Julie DiCaro is talking about, I’m not completely sure. I do know that Schefter doesn’t deserve it.
It all started with a harmless Adam Schefter tweet.
Three weeks from today is a hugely significant day, with potential ramifications for years to come.
The NFL trade deadline.

Ok, so he’s clearly making a corny joke talking about the trade deadline when everyone thought he was referencing the presidential election. Typical Schefter, right? Not according to Deadspin writer Julie DiCaro, who thought this tweet was so appalling that she had to use her platform to roast Schefter for his “vacuous” behavior.

In this article, DiCaro really attacks Adam Schefter’s character and judgement. Here is an exerpt from the shame piece.
“This is a poor attempt at humor during a good year, and a “fuck you” to every non-white person who has been and continues to be deeply affected by the actions and policies of Donald Trump in 2020. While the President continues to refuse to disavow white supremacy (shoutout to Jemele Hill, who was light years ahead of the rest of America on this one), while COVID continues to ravage Black and brown communities at two and a half times more than white ones, while people wait in line to vote for upwards of 11 hours in Marietta, Ga., this is the joke Adam Schefter decided to make.”

DeadSpin tried to cancel Trevor Bauer and Adam Schefter today. Bauer certainly isn’t perfect but all he did was reply to a tweet & because it was a woman folks are crying sexist. Schefter made a joke that didn’t target anyone. Literally no one.
Deadspin is an embarrassment.

That cringey Deadspin article killing Schefter (which I refuse to link or retweet because screw them) for making a completely harmless joke about the election & NFL trade deadline falling on the same day, is reason #1 why that site is a lifeless husk staffed by joyless scabs now.

Look, I’m not going to act like I know what it’s like to be a female or person of color in America. I’m especially not going to act like I know what it’s like for them with such an overtly racist and sexist president in office right now. What I will do, though, is stand up for Adam Schefter. This is a guy that has always stood up for people less fortunate than himself, along with helping spread the right messages with his platform.
I’m sure Julie DiCaro has the right intentions. We should all be talking about the upcoming election, and how we are going to make this country a better place for everyone, but I think she misses the mark badly here.
I know the “he meant no harm” argument is invalid in this day-in-age, so I won’t use it. However, this little joke about the NFL trade deadline is so meaningless that it doesn’t even warrant an argument. There is nothing to see here, let’s all move on from it.
